Eistedffa Fisheries Criceth:
Well it started on a Wednesday morning for myself and Andrew we set off from sunny Rhyl at about 08:00am we thought we would have a lie in we arrived at around 10:30. We had a little walk around the lake and chatted to the owner Tom, he told us that a few have come out but most people were catching around 3-4 Carp, also one 20 had come out early this week.

The lake its self is little over a one acre with islands, bays and lilies to fish to with channels that the carp love to patrol. Me and Andrew had opted for a double swim as a bit of a social able. Once we had our rods in the water it was around the 12 o clock mark, and we waited. There were 5 other fishing the opposite bank but we were seeing no carp on the banks that is, but out there on the lake they crashing, thrashing and basking in the upper layers of the water. We had baited up our chosen spots but nothing had happened we were both getting knocks on both of our rods but no runs.

I spoke to a bloke and his two sons on the other side of the lake and he told me that it kicks off around 6 ish, sure enough simultaneously as one of his sons rod went off one of mine did. There I struck into the fish and then slack lines I couldn't understand, then the blokes son lost his fish. when I reeled my line in my leader was fine, my lead was fine, knots perfect then as I got to around 5 inches down my hook length all had disappeared the carp had snagged me. I said to Andrew no more fishing slack lines because its such a small lake the carp know all the snags and there bound to go for them every time. I opted to go semi slack and tight on my rods as I was fishing so close to the said snags.

As time went on I had my first fish around 9:00pm it was a 15"7oz mirror, in pristine condition immaculate mouth and body that was it I was on the them. It come to around 9:30pm and I was into another fish this one felt a bit better it was making a run down the same bank but it soon became tamed a went over the but of the net, Andrew lifted the net and said "thats a good 'un" in his stoke accent, and he wasn't wrong we decided to weigh it to make sure and she hit the 22"6oz not bad I said for a lake that only has around 5 known 20's, that night was frantic I had 12 carp between my first until 10 the next morning. As well as another big un at 21" dead, I was made up, up until now I had been fishing with mistral crème crab shelf life boilies I purchased in the shop, I had tried all of mine and nothing else seemed to work, but these did I some how came onto a kilo of Heron baits finest savory fish thanks Russell.

I immediately put a savory fish onto on of my hairs and scattered a few around it by now it was 6pm 2nd evening we were supposed to be home but I persuaded Andrew to stay via a bag of fish and chips. Then I received a drop back and wallop it screamed off I struck into it and tightened my clutch and let it go, occasionally turning its head as it went for snags, after a epic battle I pulled in a 23"4oz Simmons mirror, made up was a understatement 3 20's in one session I was having a dream.

Andy after having only 2 Carp whilst I was in the high teens decided to move pegs and to be fair I don't blame him he went tactical and went for a quiet little peg next to a few lilies and an island, was he right to move yes he had 7 Carp between that evening and the next morning what a bash.

I also had a 19"14oz mirror oh so close to being yet another 20, Andy caught the best looker a fully scaled mirror.

Between the both of us we had over 33 carp, what a session. Thanks Tom what a great fisherie and friendly advice and staff you have keep up the good work, we will definitely be back!
